The Gratitude Chain - this World Gratitude Day
In honor of World Gratitude Day, I would like to share a practice that reminds me how experiencing gratitude, genuinely expressing appreciation and generously extending kindness can change people’s lives—especially our own.
For many years, I have returned to this practice whenever I recognize how one small act, meaningful moment or unique set of circumstances changed the course of my life and helped keep me on my path toward self-awareness and personal enlightenment.
I think of this as The Gratitude Chain.
I am deeply grateful for all the souls who have contributed to my life and helped pave the path I am walking today. I make it a practice to reflect on how instrumental they have been and to express my gratitude—silently, in writing or in person.
Recently, I have been reflecting on my ancestors and the unique circumstances that allowed them to meet decades and even centuries ago and begin their families. Some survived extraordinary hardships, including wars and the Great Depression. I believe these experiences created resilience and strength, while also leaving behind patterns of scarcity and fear.
It has been fascinating to trace the lineage on both sides of my family and consider what my ancestors had to achieve and overcome. Their journeys eventually gave my parents the opportunity to travel to the United States for higher education, where they met and began a family of their own.
Their stories are an essential part of my Gratitude Chain.
Beyond my ancestry, there have been many people whose presence and involvement helped shape the direction of my life.
I am grateful for my second-grade teacher, who gave me confidence and made me feel seen.
I am grateful for my parents, who always encouraged and motivated me to set meaningful goals and work toward achieving them.
I am grateful for one of my best friends, who took me under her wing when I transferred to a new high school during my senior year and made me feel welcome.
I am grateful for my uncle, whose move west eventually led our family to Arizona—and ultimately led me to attend college in California.
One decision created another opportunity. One act of kindness made the next chapter possible. Each person became a meaningful link in a chain of events that helped lead me to where I am today.
I am grateful for the endless opportunities life has presented to me and for all the incredible people who have helped me, encouraged me and believed in me along the way.
Today, I am observing World Gratitude Day by personally thanking some of these special souls and letting them know how their kindness and support have positively contributed to my life.
I would also like to thank all of you—our customers, followers and community—for believing in me and in my mission for Mala and Mantra: to create mindful living products designed to inspire your journey within to your authentic self.
Genuine gratitude comes from the heart.
From my heart to yours, I am grateful for you.
Gratefully,
JPC
