Happier+ Healthier Living this International Day of Happiness

Don't worry. . . be happy.

This is easier said than done for some people who have a hard time being happy due to a variety of reasons including stress, anxiety, and depression.

March 20 has been established as the annual International Day of Happiness by the United Nations which has prioritized happiness as part of the important development of total wellbeing.

Happiness is defined by Merriam-Webster as

:a state of well-being and contentment : JOY

The UN believes so strongly about happiness that it has recognized it as a "fundamental human goal" and adopted a resolution to make every 20th of March International Day of Happiness starting back in 2013.

This day challenges us to come up with a more balanced approach to growing economies while promoting the happiness and wellbeing of humanity.

At Mala and Mantra we believe in empowering the world through wellness.  We also believe that internal happiness is a fundamental contributing factor to a persons wellbeing and overall wellness.  We intentionally design our products and write our mantras to provide wellness to the wearer.  It is our goal and hope that the holistic properties of the gemstones we use help provide positive energy and the words we write inspire self transformation and enlightenment.

Merriam-Webster defines wellness as:

: the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal //lifestyles that promote wellness
We enter into the Spring season on the same day we experience a positive shift in universal energy, especially with warmer and longer days accompanied by more sunshine, which almost always contributes to happiness.  Let's savor that feeling of warmth, happiness and joy this day brings and remember to:

be happy.

be healthy.

be well.

Let's also challenge ourselves to experience and spread happiness to others every day.  This is a choice we can make on a daily basis which can positively affect our lives and those of who we extend the energy of happiness and contentment to.

I was inspired by an article I read on actionforhappiness.com with suggestions for 10 keys to happier living, some of which include:

- Live life mindfully

- Do things for others

- Be comfortable with who you are

- Connect with people

- Have goals to look forward to

- Be part of something bigger

On this International Day of Happiness I am reminded of the closing mantra from my Kundalini Yoga classes:

May the Long Time Sun Shine Upon You

"May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you,
Guide your way on."

I hope this beautiful mantra resonates with you and you feel the warmth of the sun shining today and your own light within radiating.

Namaste,

JPC
